We invite your help to fix the Rotorua lakes by becoming a member of the LakesWater Quality Society. As a community organisation we rely on our membership for support.
Help us fix water quality in the Rotorua Lakes
The task ahead is great. Threats to the lakes have become urgent, with potentially toxic algae severely curtailing the recreational use of several lakes – yet all the lakes are at risk.
Not all the news is negative. Environment BOP, prompted by strong pressure from our Society, is now giving real priority to fixing the lakes. Central Government has been engaged and is supporting restoration measures. The Rotorua District is now taking action on sewerage schemes.
Much more needs to be done. Major issues ahead are funding of work for the lakes and implementation of the projects before the lakes die.
LakesWater Quality Society works by doing its homework, encouraging research and persuading the authorities to take action.
Our membership reaches well beyond the Rotorua district because people all over NZ appreciate the value of the Rotorua Lakes to the environment and the national economy. Although our focus is on the Rotorua lakes we are also interested in the status of other New Zealand lakes and are happy to share our knowledge and experience with lake advocates in other areas.
We need your help! If you are not already a member, please help by joining the LakesWater Quality Society now.
